I feel this guy’s pain.  After a grueling 10, 12 (15? a lifetime?) years, this is exactly why my husband is beginning to consider leaving science too.  For his own mental health and happiness, I hope he does it, and finds something to do that he both loves and that is not incredibly twisted and makes him miserable the majority of the time.

How sad that something so wonderful, and that should be bringing nothing but more wonder and knowledge, and progress and cooperation and moving forward,  has somehow been turned into a world made up of back-stabbing and scheming infants.  The world of academic science sucks.  It doesn’t have to.
